Fivetran data connectors boost enterprise data integration

Data integration vendor Fivetran is expanding its portfolio of data source connectors with a series of new additions.

The new data source connectors became generally available on Jan. 19 and include connectors for IBM DB2 and SAP HANA as well as an improved connector for the Oracle Database.

Fivetran’s platform helps organizations more easily enable enterprise data integration for analytics and business intelligence applications.

The market for enterprise data integration is growing, which has led to investor interest in Fivetran. The vendor raised $100 million in a round of funding in June 2020.

Fivetran data connectors at Autodesk

Among the organizations that expect to use the new Fivetran data connectors is software vendor Autodesk, which is well known for its AutoCAD software platform.

Jesse Pedersen, vice president of data platforms and insights at Autodesk, explained that the vendor uses Fivetran to enable data pipelines that feed into business intelligence and analytics platform that help Autodesk run its business.

NASA’s Halted Rocket Test Could Stall Moon Shot, Redo Possible

NASA is considering a second firing of its Moon rocket engines after a critical test came up short over the weekend, a move that could bump the first flight in the Artemis lunar-landing programme into next year.

The space agency had aimed to launch its new Space Launch System, or SLS, rocket and an empty Orion capsule by the end of this year, with the capsule flying to the Moon and back as a prelude to crew missions. But that date could be in jeopardy following Saturday’s aborted test.

“We have a shot at flying it this year, but we need to get through this next step,” said Kathy Lueders, head of NASA’s human spaceflight office.

All four engines fired for barely a minute, rather than the intended eight minutes, on the test stand at NASA’s Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. The countdown rehearsal for the 212-foot (65-metre) core stage — made by Boeing — included the liquid hydrogen and oxygen tanks, as well as the all necessary computers and electronics.

On Tuesday, NASA attributed the automatic shutdown to the strict test limits meant to protect the core stage so it can be used on the first Artemis flight.

New sodium oxide paves way for advanced sodium-ion batteries

Skoltech researchers and their collaborators from France, the US, Switzerland, and Australia were able to create and describe a mixed Na(Li1/3Mn2/3)O2 oxide that holds promise as a cathode material for sodium-ion batteries, which can one day complement or even replace lithium-ion batteries.
